CENTRALIA — The Forks boys won nine out of 14 weight divisions at the WIAA District 4 1A Subregionals held at The Hub in Centralia, winning the meet narrowly over Montesano.
The Spartans also picked up six second-place finishes, with Forks wrestlers facing off against each other in the championship match in four weight divisions.
Forks tallied 366 team points to 358.5 for Montesano. The two Evergreen 1A schools dominated the subregionals as no other team had more than 164 points.
Forks wrestlers winning their weight divisions were:
Andres Santos-Delacruz, 113 pounds; Jake Weakley, 120 pounds; Colton Duncan, 126 pounds; Hayden Baker, 152 pounds; Hayden Queen, 160 pounds; Brett Moody, 170 pounds; Colby Demorest, 182 pounds; Tristen Pisani, 220 pounds; and Luke Dahlgren, 285 pounds.
Spartans finishing second were:
Ariel Moralez, 126 pounds (losing to Duncan in the finals); Luis Perez, 138 pounds; Keith Thompson, 145 pounds; Josh Salazar, 170 pounds (losing to Moody in the finals); Shane Queen, 182 pounds (losing to Demorest by forfeit); Eden Cisneros, 220 pounds (losing to Pisani in the finals).
Other Forks wrestlers who placed include:
Juan Pablo Flores-Contreras, 106 pounds, third; Tyler Ellis, 195 pounds, fifth; Victor Morales-Sanchez, 120 pounds, sixth; Matthew Kamulu-Edlin, 195 pounds, sixth; Bryan Elena, 160 pounds, eighth;
While Forks won nine weight divisions, Montesano won three and Hoquiam two.
Forks will now send a large contingent to the 1A District 4 Regionals at Castle Rock on Saturday. The top four at the regionals will move on to the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16.
In addition to the performance by the boys, Forks’ Karen Ensastegui won the 100-pound weight division at the District 4 girls tournament. Aspen Rondeau came in fourth at the 115-pound division, while Elizabeth Jackson-Cruz came in fifth at 110 pounds.
Port Townsend results
SILVERDALE — Port Townsend picked up three weight championships at the West-Central District III 1A wrestling subregionals held at Klahowya High School.
Winning their weight divisions were Gabe Petrick at 160 pounds, Dylan Tracer at 182 pounds and Wes Blue at 220 pounds. At the girls’ tournament held in Port Angeles, Port Townsend’s Brenna Franklin won the 170-pound division.
Placing second was Chimacum’s Kyle Caldwell at 195 pounds. Caldwell lost the championship match to Toretto Metzger-Magalai 4-3 in a tiebreaker.
In team points, Port Townsend came in third out of six schools with 133.5 points. Vashon won the subregionals with 294 points.
Also placing for Port Townsend were:
Oscar Levine, third, 106 pounds; Carter Swartout, 120 pounds, third; Odin Smith, 152 pounds, third; Logan Massie, 126 pounds, fourth; Ian Linn-Glasgow, 145 pounds, fourth. Henry Stier finished fifth at 152 pounds and will go to regionals as an alternate.
Port Townsend wrestlers now move on to the 1A Regionals at Meridian High School, with the top four wrestlers moving on to the Mat Classic.
