TRACK AND FIELD: Butler, Millsap win two events for Port Angeles; Crescent boys, girls win league meet

POULSBO — Port Angeles’ Jolene Millsap sprinted to a pair of first-place finishes at an Olympic League three-team meet at North Kitsap High School.

The host Vikings won the girls meet with 105.5 points. The Roughriders were a distant second with 32.5 points and North Mason took third with 29 points.

North Kitsap also was the boys champion with 84 points. North Mason came in second with 37 points and Port Angeles was third with 15.

Millsap won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.99 seconds, more than three-fourths of a second faster than second-place finisher Jasmine Selembo of North Kitsap (13.81 seconds).

Millsap also won the 200-meter dash. She beat North Mason’s Tegan Daviscourt, who holds the top 200 time in Class 2A, 26.35 seconds to 26.78 seconds.

Millsap currently has the third-best 100 and 200 times in 2A.

Brittany Norberg was the Riders’ only other winner at Thursday’s meet, taking the javelin with a throw of 96 feet and 7 inches. Teammate Lenora Hofer’s throw of 86-05 was good for third place.

Willow Suess, Elizabeth Stevenson and Annika Pederson each earned second-place finishes in the distance runs for Port Angeles.

Suess was second in the 800, Stevenson in the 1,600 and Pederson in the 3,200.

Suess also had a third-place finish in the 400-meter run.

Cami Raber finished fourth in the 200-meter dash for the Riders.

Raber also was second in the shot put with a throw of 30-01.25. Teammate Stephanie Dudley took fifth.

Zoe Owens-Clawson tied for second in the triple jump and finished fourth in the high jump. Suess, meanwhile, placed fourth in the triple jump.

Cassidy Hodgin had Port Angeles’ best showing in the long jump with a distance of 13-06.5.

Butler wins twice for Riders

Peter Butler won twice for the Port Angeles boys, dominating the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

He ran the 1,600 in four minutes and 50.5 seconds, which was nine seconds ahead of second-pace finisher Austin Nettleton of North Kitsap. Port Angeles’ Hunter Demsey placed fifth.

Butler won the 3,200 by 34 seconds with a time of 10:41.67.

Matt Robbins was the Riders’ only other champion, taking the shot put with a throw of 40 feet and 3 inches. Teammate Caleb West was fourth in the shot put and Paul Van Rosen was fifth.

West also finished third in the discus.

To go along with his shot put win, Robbins added a fourth-place showing in the 100-meter dash, right behind teammate Tony Delgardno, who racked up three third-place finishes for Port Angeles. Delgardno also placed third in the 200 and the 800.

The Riders’ other top-five finisher was Nick Fritschler, who took third in the 400 with a time of 57.86 seconds.

Crescent boys, girls second at league meet

JOYCE — Devanie Christie was a four-event winner and Travis Walker was a triple winner to lead the Loggers girls and boys to victories at the North Olympic League meet at Crescent High School on Friday.

Christie won the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.08 seconds, beating out Clallam Bay’s Atokena Abe and Marissa May.

Christie also won the 800-meter run as the event’s only participant, the triple jump (30 feet and 4 inches) and the javelin (90 feet and 2 inches).

Christie’s teammate Ryan Lester won three events: the 200-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump.

Lester, a sophomore, took second in the 300-meter hurdles to Clallam Bay freshman Molly McCoy, who also won the high jump and placed second in the long jump.

Clallam Bay’s Inga Erickson and Jennica Maines finished first and second in the 400-meter dash, while teammate Kaylin Signor won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Neah Bay’s Faye Chartraw won the shot put with a distance of 29 feet and 10.5 inches. Teammate Selena Akin was second and Crescent’s Meghan Shamp placed third.

Shamp won the discus (87-01), followed by Clallam Bay’s Zeria Signor and Crescent’s Ashara Dodson.

The Loggers edged the Bruins 57-55 in the team competition. Neah Bay was third with 12 points.

The Port Angeles JV girls competed in the event. They didn’t earn team points, but many Riders had top marks.

Bailey Reader ran the meet’s fastest 3,200-meter time, and Haili Farnam had the second-best times in the 100 and 200.

Willow Suess had the second-best triple jump and the third-best long jump, and Lenora Hofer notched the No. 2 javelin distance.

Walker wins thrice

Walker took first in a sprint, a jump and a throwing event for the Loggers.

Crescent won the event with 67 points. Neah Bay earned 48 points for second place and Clallam Bay was third with 39 points.

Walker won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.31, which tied with Neah Bay’s Josiah Greene for first place.

Walker edged out Neah Bay’s Grayson Porter in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet and 10 inches.

Walker also won the triple jump with a distance of 35-10, nearly 10 inches longer than teammate Wyatt McNeese, who took second. Clallam Bay’s Calvin Ritter was third.

Cameron Buzzell of Neah Bay won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.05 seconds, and the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:43.40.

Greene also won two events for the Red Devils, the 400-meter dash (58.34 seconds) and the long jump (20 feet).

Neah Bay also took second and third in the long jump, with Elisha Winck (18-04) and Buzzell (17-01) following Greene.

Winck won the triple jump with a 41-06.5.

Clallam Bay had two boys winners. Evan Messinger won the discus (109-03) by 17 feet over Crescent’s Quenton Wolfer (92-09), and Wesley Hanson won the 3,200-meter run over the event’s only other participant, Neal Peppard of Crescent.

Other winners for Crescent were Quinn’Tin March (110-meter hurdles), Martin Waldrip (300-meter hurdles), Wolfer (Javelin) and Jacob Bailargeon (800-meter run).

For the Port Angeles JV boys team, Nick Fritschler ran the meet’s best 200 (25.61 seconds) and Roberto Coronel had the top discus mark (109-09).
