TRACK AND FIELD: Neah Bay boys, girls win final track meet of the year

JOYCE — Dominating the sprints and the field events, the Neah Bay boys and girls won the final North Olympic B track meet of the year held at Crescent High School.

The Neah Bay boys tallied 78 team points, while Crescent had 39 and Clallam Bay 14. On the girls’ side, Neah Bay had 75 team points to Clallam Bay’s 31 and Crescent’s 30.

Neah Bay’s Tobias Croy, who is also simultaneously playing football for Neah Bay, won the 100-meter dash (12.11 seconds) and the long jump (18 feet, 4 inches). His teammate Robert Richardson won the 200-meter dash (24.75 seconds) and the 400 meters (55.98).

Croy and Richardson also teamed up on the 4×100 team to take first place. The Neah Bay team of Julian Carrick, Devon Haltunnen, Richardson and Croy with a time of 48.32.

Neah Bay’s Malcom Lovik won a pair of field events — the shot put (35 feet, 5 inches) and the javelin (110-0).

Clallam Bay’s Mauricio Cruz-Lopez won two events. He took first in the 800 meters (2:32.57) and in the 1,600 meters (5:51.97).

Crescent won a pair of boys’ events. Brendan Bergstrom of the Loggers won the discus with a throw of 109-1, while teammate Dominiq Sprague won the triple jump with a distance of 26-8.

The Red Devil’s Carrick also won the high jump with a jump of 5-4 and Neah Bay’s Paul Greene won the 300 hurdles (56.23).

Girls

The big winners on the girls side were JoCy Kazlauskas of Crescent and Shilaily Woodruff of Neah Bay.

Woodruff won the 200 meters (31.04), the high jump (4-0) and the triple jump (28-0). Kazlauskas won the long jump (14-1½), the 100 meters (14.56) and was part of a first-place 4×100 Crescent team. The Loggers’ 4×100 squad (Ciara Cargo, Kazlauskas, Katelyn Dunavant and Makiah Clark) finished with a time of 1:01.66.

Neah Bay’s Ryana Moss won two events — the 1,600 meters (6:11.82) and the 300 hurdles (1:00.23).

Clallam Bay’s Simona Cruz-Lopez also had a good meet. She won the 400 (1:14.77) and was part of the Bruins’ first-place 4×200 team (Cruz-Lopez, Kyleigh Richardson, Shyann Littleton and Madison Pilatti), which had a time of 2:14.50.

Neah Bay’s Laila Greene won the 800 meters (2:59.87) and the javelin (65-0).

Other girls winners include:

Discus — Mariella Wakole, Neah Bay, 72-4.

Shot put — Zoey Wachendorf, 25-2½.

100 hurdles — Kianah Cameron, 20.49.

Forks at District IV 2B championships

RAINIER —Forks’ Ashton Doyle picked up a pair of third-place finishes at last week’s District IV 2B Track and Field Championships.

Doyle finished third in the 100 meters (11.53 seconds) and 200 meters (23.39). He also picked up a fifth place in the long jump (18-5¼).

The Spartans’ Skyler Steffen also finished third in the discus (146-4, a personal record) and in the shot put (42-7). His teammate Sloan Tumaua, just a freshman, finished fourth in the discus (126-2).

On the girls’ side, Kesia Rowley had the best finish for the Spartans, coming in third in the javelin (94-0). Her teammate LillyAnn Crowell, a freshman, finished fourth in the high jump (4-6).
