TRACK AND FIELD: Port Angeles boys finish second at league meet; Sequim teams fourth

Multiple individual winners — PA’s Gladfelter, Nickerson; Sequim’s Brown and Vaara

POULSBO — The Port Angeles boys finished second as a team and the Sequim boys and girls both finished fourth in the Olympic League track and field championships that concluded Saturday.

Port Angeles finished with 147 points, behind just North Kitsap’s 162.5. The Sequim boys had 68 points. For the girls, Sequim had 99 points while Port Angeles was sixth with 61 points. Bainbridge won the girls meet with 125 points.

Port Angeles got first-place finishes in both the 1,600 and the 3,200 from distance runner Jack Gladfelter. He won the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes, 25.96 seconds and the 3,200 with a time of 9:30.60.

Gladfelter’s teammate Parker Nickerson also won two events. He took first in the long jump with a personal-record leap of 20 feet, 8 inches He followed that up by winning the triple jump with a distance of 40-9¼.

Sequim’s Andrew Brown had a fantastic meet, winning a pair of events. He took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 15.97 seconds. He followed that up with a personal record in the high jump at 6-0¾. On Saturday, he took second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 41.53, a personal record. Nickerson was third with a personal-record time of 43.03.

Port Angeles also got a second-place finish from its 4×100 relay team of Bryson Graham, Dai Quan Tapia, Trevor Martin and Jason Hawes. They finished with a time of 45.52 seconds.

Martin also picked up a second place in the discus with a throw of 119-5 and another second place in the shot put (39-7½). His teammate Dallas Dunning was second in the high jump at 5-8.

Sequim’s Sean Southard finished second in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 52.53. His teammate Mirek Skov came in second in the pole vault with a height of 13-6 and third in the discus at 118-6. Port Angeles’ Kason Albaugh was third in the javelin with a throw of 136-8, a personal record.

Girls

Sequim’s Jolene Vaara had four first-place finishes as an individual and relay team member. She won both the high jump (5-0) and the long jump (17-1). Her long jump is just off her own Sequim school record distance.

Sequim’s 4×200 relay team (Hi’ilei Robinson, Bloomenrader, Jolene Vaara and Barrett) took first with a time of 1:49.65 and the Wolves’ 4×400 team (Robinson, Bloomenrader, Vaara and Nikoline Updike) was first with a time of 4:13.96.

Sequim’s Barrett also won the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.15. Bloomenrader was third with a personal-record 1:03.49.

Port Angeles’ Leia Larson was third in the 3,200 (12:31.64, a personal record) and teammate Faerin Tate was third in the 300 hurdles (49.20, also a personal record). Sequim’s Ahrya Klinger was third in the pole vault (8-0).

The district track meet at Renton High School will run from May 17-20.

NOL meet

JOYCE — The Neah Bay girls and Crescent boys won NOL track and field championships this weekend.

The Crescent boys dominated with 83 points to 49 for Clallam Bay and 28 for Neah Bay. The Neah Bay girls narrowly beat Clallam Bay 60-54. Crescent came in a close third with 50 points.

There were numerous multiple event winners. Crescent’s Dominiq Sprague won three individual events, the 200 meters (26.44), the long jump (17-9½) and the triple jump (35-11).

Clallam Bay’s William Hull won the 800 meters (2:33.90) and the 1,600 (5:37.67). Crescent’s Lukas Love won the 3,200 (12:27.85) and the 300 hurdles (52.63), while teammate Conner Bauers won the 110 hurdles (20.65) and the high jump (5-0). Crescent’s Titus White also won the shot put (40-10) and the javelin (132-1).

Crescent’s Conner Ferro-May took first in the discus (130-1), while the Crescent 4×100 relay team (Mikah Love, Levi Bourm, Terrell Emery and Blaik Forsell) took first in 55.79 and the Crescent 4×400 relay team (Cole Brooms, Emery, Donovon Allen, Forsell) won in a time of 4:40.51.

Girls

Neah Bay’s Angel Haltunnen won two events — the 100 meters (13.61) and the 200 meters (27.89). Teammate Cerise Moss won the javelin with a throw of 81-1 and the 400 meters in a time of 1:12.60.

Clallam Bay’s Liliana Scordino won the 3,200 in a time of 16:26.44 and the 800 in a time of 3:28.21, while Neah Bay’s Ryana Moss won the 1,600 (6:12.17) and the 300 hurdles (53.26).

In field events, Crescent’s Alexis Dunavant won the shot put (27-8) and the high jump (4-4). Her teammate Naomii Sprague won the long jump (14-5) and the triple jump (29-3).

In the relays, the Neah Bay 4×100 (Alexa Greene, Brianna McGimpsey, Mariella Wakole and Halttunen, 58.07), 4×200 (McGimpsey, Cerise Moss, Ryana Moss, Greene, 2:03.70) and 4×400 (McGimpsey, Greene, Cerise Moss and Ryana Moss, 4:56.10) all took first.

Other girls winners include Kyleigh Richardson, Clallam Bay, 100 hurdles (21.29) and Katelyn Dunavant, Crescent, discus (79-11).

East Jefferson at Liberty and Stanwood Twilight

RENTON — East Jefferson’s Aliyah Yearian set a new No. 1 time statewide in the 1,600 meter run at the Liberty Twilight distance invitational Friday.

Going up against runners from bigger schools, Yearian finished third with a personal-record time of 5:02.75. That is the top 1A time in the state. Yearian already holds the No. 2 time statewide in the 3,200.

Her teammate Fiona Fraser came in 19th in the 1,600 with a personal-record time of 5:25.24, which is the 10th-best 1A time in the state. Fraser also has the fourth-best 3,200 time in the state. Camryn Hines came in 24th with a time of 5:30.98.

For the boys, Sebastian Manza was 30th with a time of 4:37.23 and Soare Johnston was 41st with a time of 4:42.20, a personal record.

While the distance runners were at Liberty High School, East Jefferson’s other track athletes competed at the Stanwood Twilight meet.

Addy Asbell finished second in the shot put with a distance of 31-8¼. Kaylen Pray was second in the 100-meter run with a time of 13.40 seconds and Stephanie Sanchez was third in the 100 hurdles with a personal-record time of 17.57.
