TRACK AND FIELD: Port Angeles’ Butler wins twice at league meet; other area reports

PORT ANGELES — Long-distance runner Peter Butler was the lone dual-event winner from the Port Angeles boys and girls track and field teams at a home Olympic League meet with North Kitsap and North Mason.

Defending league champion North Kitsap claimed Thursday’s boys meet with 230.66 points, North Mason had 106 and Port Angeles posted 92 points.

Butler claimed the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 49.15 seconds and the 3,200 in 10:18.27.

Matt Robbins was the other event winner for the Roughriders with a throw of 42 feet, 6 inches in the shot put.

Simon Shindler finished second behind Butler in the 1,600 and was third in the 3,200.

Paul Van Rossen came in second in the discus and was third in the shot put for Port Angeles.

On the girls side, North Kitsap won with 220 points, while Port Angeles was second with 152 and North Mason finished with 93.

Elyse Lovgren led the way for the Riders, winning the long jump with a distance of 15-10.5, finishing second in the 100 with a time of 13.30 seconds, second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-05, and third in the 200 with a time of 28.72 seconds.

Port Angeles swept the long distance events: Gracie Long won the 1,600 with a time of 5:25.5 and Maddie Dougherty took the 3,200 with a time of 13:23.75.

Long also finished third in the 300 hurdles, while Dougherty also finished third in the pole vault.

Dougherty and Long teamed with Laura Nutter and Haili Farnam to place second in the 4×200-meter relay.

Nutter also was second in the 800 for the Riders.

Cami Raber finished first in the discus for Port Angeles with a throw of 91 feet, and Zoe Owens took first the triple jump with a distance of 33-11, which moves her into first place on the North Olympic Peninsula’s season rankings.

Owens also placed third in the high jump and fourth in the javelin for Port Angeles.

The Riders will compete with Chimacum and Port Townsend at a four-team meet at Bremerton on Wednesday.

Bruins, Red Devils win North Olympic League meet

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Bay girls and the Neah Bay boys won the Class 1B North Olympic League meet held concurrently with the Port Angeles, North Kitsap and North Mason meet at Port Angeles High School.

Neah Bay’s Faye Chartraw topped all competition in the girls shot put, winning the event with a throw of 33 feet, 10 inches. Chartraw also was third overall in the discus.

Alicia Loomis and Selena Akin were second overall for the Red Devils in the shot put and discus, respectively.

Clallam Bay didn’t record an event winner against the bigger schools but received many standout performances.

Molly McCoy was third in the high jump, fifth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the long jump.

Kendra Anderson placed third in the 800 and was part of a third-place 4×400-meter relay team along with Marissa May, Inga Erickson and McCoy.

The 4×200 relay team of Anderson, May, Erickson and Atokena Abe finished fourth.

Ryan Lester led Crescent with a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles. She also took fourth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the triple jump.

Ashara Dodson earned fourth in the discus and seventh in the javelin for the Loggers.

None of the small schools produced an event winner on the boys side.

Elisha Winck led the way for Neah Bay, taking third in both the long and triple jumps.

Cameron Buzzell came in third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 100 for the Red Devils..

He broke the 12-second mark in the 100 for the first time in his career with an 11.95, which ranks fourth on the North Olympic Peninsula this season.

His time of 12.37 seconds in the 200 also ranks fourth on the Peninsula.

Auston Jimmicum was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles. His time of 18.65 seconds in the latter is second on the Peninsula.

Cole Svec came in fourth in the high jump, and he teamed with Buzzell, Winck and Chris Martinez to claim third in the 4×100 relay.

Crescent’s Paul Frantz finished second in the 800 and fourth in the 400.

Wyatt McNeese took second in the shot put and fourth in the discus for Crescent.

Neil Peppard ended up third in the discus for the Loggers.

Jordan Scott was fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 300 and 110 hurdles.

Clayton Willis posted the best finishes for the Bruins, earning second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.

Sequim sweeps four-team meet

PORT TOWNSEND — The fastest boys on the North Olympic Peninsula faced off as Sequim and Port Townsend competed against Coupeville and Klahowya.

Sequim won all three of its head-to-head competitions Thursday, defeating Port Townsend 88-49, Coupeville 125-17 and Klahowya 116-28.

The Redhawks won two of three, defeating Coupeville 96-28 and Klahowya 83-56.

The Sequim girls also won all three showdowns, beating Port Townsend 122-21, Coupeville 104-39 and Klahowya 112-35.

The Port Townsend girls lost all three team competitions.

Sequim’s Miguel Moroles and Port Townsend’s Cameron Constantine, who are first and second, respectively, on the Peninsula in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes had a one-two finish in the 200.

Moroles won with an area-best time of 24.05 seconds, and Constantine was close behind at 24.10 seconds.

Constantine placed second in the 100, while Moroles game in fifth.

Moroles also set a new area-best in the 400 by winning with at time of 53.68 seconds.

Alex Barry was a triple winner for the Wolves, taking the discus, javelin and triple jump. His javelin throw of 181 feet, 3 inches is the best on the Peninsula and only 8 inches shy of his personal best set last season.

Port Townsend’s Jeff Seton was second. In only the second track and field meet of his career, the senior achieved the second-longest throw on the Peninsula (150-03).

Oscar Herrera won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles for Sequim.

Moroles, Barry and Herrera helped the Wolves win both relays.

Herrera, Eric Hermosada, Jason Springer and Quinton Johnson won the 4×100 with a time of 45.88 seconds.

Moroles, Barry, Herrera and Logan Habner won the 4×400 with a time of 3:34.80.

Austin Adams won the shot put for Sequim with a distance of 42-10, while teammate Joshua Cibene was second with a 37-02.

Cibene won the pole vault with a 13-foot mark, 2 feet ahead of teammate Rickey Gross.

Jackson Oliver won the high jump (5-10) and placed second in the long jump (18-03).

The Port Townsend boys won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Ryan Clarke won the 1,600 with an area-best 4:34.41 and the 3,200 with another area-best of 9:41.21.

Brennan LaBrie took first in the 800 with an area-best 2:03.67 time.

Seren Dances was the Redhawks’ final boys winner, taking the long jump with a 18-09.

The Sequim girls had four double winners: Heidi Vereide, Waverly Shreffler, Cheryl Armstrong and Mattie Clark.

Vereide won the 200 (28.53 seconds) and the long jump (14-09.25).

Shreffler won the 400 (59.49 seconds) and 800 (2:28.17).

Shreffler also placed second in the 100, while Vereide was third.

Those two also helped the Wolves take first in the 4×400 relay, along with Gretchen Happe and Megan Breckenridge.

Clark won the hurdles, running the 100 hurdles in 17.98 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 55.10 seconds.

Cheryl Armstrong won the shot put (29-11) and discus (96-02) and placed third in the javelin.

Emily van Dyken won the pole vault for the Wolves with a height of 8 feet.

Sara wines was the only winner for the Port Townsend girls, taking the javelin with a mark of 94-02.

Hanna Trailer placed second in the 1,600 for the Redhawks.

Chimacum pair win at four-team meet

KINGSTON — Bailey Castillo and Trevon Noel had first-place showing for the Cowboys at the four-team Olympic League meet.

Castillo won the girls javelin with a throw of 96 feet, 4 inches.

Noel won the boys discus with a distance of 113-10. He also placed second in the shot put.

Teammate Josh Conklin took third in both events.

Victor Hitt placed fourth in the long jump for the Cowboys, while Isaiah Avery was fifth in the javelin.

In the girls javelin, Chimacum’s Sammy Raines finished three spots behind Castillo.

Shelby MacDonald took fourth in the shot put for the Cowboys and Alice Yaley and Emily Fletcher finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
