TRACK AND FIELD: Port Angeles girls, Sequim boys run away from field at PA meet

PORT ANGELES — The Sequim boys track and field team won 12 out of 17 events at a three-team meet with Port Angeles and Bremerton, while the Port Angeles girls won 11 out of 18.

Sequim won the boys’ meet Thursday with 88 team points to Port Angeles’ 55 and Bremerton’s 35. The Port Angeles girls had 101 team points to Sequim’s 46 and Bremerton’s 36.

The Port Angeles boys won five events as the Roughriders and Wolves boys’ teams completely shut out Bremerton from the top podium.

The Sequim girls won three events.

Murray Bingham was a multiple winner for the Wolves.

He won the 800 meters by more than 15 seconds with a time of 1:58.35. Bingham has the No. 1 2A 800 time in the entire state with a 1:57.69 he ran in Port Angeles in March.

Bingham also won the 1,600, also by 15 seconds, with a time of 4:52.06.

Port Angeles’ Liam Clark also won two events, the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and the long jump with a personal best of 20 feet, 11 inches. Grady Bourm of Port Angeles also jumped 5-8, but Clark was listed as the winner and Bourm as finishing in second place.

On the girls’ side, the Riders’ Lauren Larson won three events — the 800 (2:23.47), the 1,600 (5:42.50) and the 3,200 (11:37.22).

Larson’s winning margin in the 1,600 was by a staggering 47 seconds.

There was an interesting race in the 800 between Larson, her teammate Kynzie DeLeon and Sequim’s Riley Pyeatt. Pyeatt and DeLeon pushed Larson to a personal-best time with their own personal bests.

Larson only beat Pyeatt (2:27.43) by 4 seconds and beat DeLeon (2:29.35) by 6 seconds. Larson’s time was the seventh-fastest 800 time at the 2A level in the entire state. All three times were among the top 20 fastest times statewide.

Port Angeles’ Millie Long won both the 100-meter hurdles (16.10) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.75). Sequim’s Hope Glasser won the discus with a distance of 87-10 and the javelin with a personal-record distance of 102-4.

The Sequim boys won both the 4×100 and the 4×400 relays. The 4×100 team of Jarrett Allen, Darren Salazar, Theo McMurray and Logan Laxson won with a time of 51.64 and the 4×400 team of Laxson, Bingham, Salazar and Henry Hughes took first with a time of 3:38.47.

The Port Angeles girls swept the relays. The Riders’ 4×100 team of Camille Stensgard, Catherine Brown, Bailee Larson and Eve Burke won with a time of 53.60, the 4×200 team (Jayde Gedelman, Brown, Larson and Lynsey Light) took first with a time of 2:01.26 and the 4×400 team of DeLeon, Mckenzie Musalek, Long and Emma Weaver won with a time of 4:25.33.
