PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend girls track team picked up eighth first-place finishes, including wins in all three relay races, to take first place at the Port Townsend Invitational Track Meet.
The girls ended up with 63 points at Tuesday’s event. Bremerton had 37, Chimacum 34 and Kingston 22.
The Chimacum girls did win four events, but with a small squad weren’t able to generate a lot of team points.
For the boys, Port Townsend came in second to Bremerton. The Knights finished with 82 team points to the Redhawks’ and Kingston’s 33. Chimacum was fourth with 25 team points.
The Port Townsend boys won four events while the Chimacum boys had three winners.
The Cowboys and Redhawks girls’ teams had several competitors who won multiple events.
Port Townsend’s Anika Avelino won the 200-meter run with a time of 28.82 seconds and the 400-meter run with a time of 1:06.16. Her teammate Eileen Leoso won the shot put with a distance of 32 feet, 9¾ inches and she won the javelin with a throw of 95-8.

For the boys, Nate Cantrell won the 1,600 meters with a huge gap of 19 seconds over second place. His time of 4:33.15 is a personal record and is the second-fastest 1,600 time recorded in the state so far this season among 1A runners. Cantrell also holds the fastest 3,200 time in the state among 1A runners (set in Lynden in March), though his time at the Port Townsend meet was well off that.
Cantrell’s Redhawk teammate Devin Harris won two events. He won the high jump with a leap of 5-2 and the triple jump with a distance of 33-3½.
Fellow Redhawk Dylan Tracer won the discus with a distance of 105-6.
