PORT ANGELES — Strong showings by the Neah Bay boys and the Clallam Bay girls highlighted the North Olympic League Subdistrict meet at Port Angeles High School.

Led in Thursday’s meet by double-event winners Jennica Maines and Molly McCoy, the Bruins posted 71 team points to knock off Crescent (55) and Neah Bay (28).

Most importantly, the Clallam Bay girls have at least seven individuals and three relays who have qualified for this week’s Class 1B Tri-District meet.

The top two in each event at the North Olympic League Subdistricts move on to Tri-Districts, along with the three best District 1, 2 and 3 times and distances that didn’t qualify automatically.

Maines sprinted to a win in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.96 seconds. She also won the triple jump with a mark of 31 feet, 2.25 inches.

McCoy cleared 4-08 to win the high jump and took the 100 hurdles in 17.74 seconds.

The pair also teamed with Atokena Abe and Miriam Wonderly to win the 4×100 relay with a time of 54.37 seconds, and with Wonderly and Kendra Anderson to claim the 4×200 relay in 1:56.97.

Abe, Anderson, Wonderly and Kaylin Signor added a third relay victory for Clallam Bay in the 4×400 (4:51.12).

Signor also won the 3,200 with a time of 14:06.70.

The Crescent girls racked up victories in the throwing and middle-distance running events and qualified eight individuals and two relays for the Tri-District meet.

Raine Westfall won the shot put for the Loggers with a throw of 29-04.75.

Ashara Dodson came out on top in the discus (91-06), while teammate McKenzie Brannan won the javelin with a distance of 99-08.

Freshman Grace Baillargeon was first in the 400 (1:06.87) for the Loggers, Leonie Hofmann won the 800 (2:53.32) and eighth-grader Chloe Conant claimed the 1,600 (6:17.15).

Hannah Lee also ran to victory for Crescent in the 200 (31.26 seconds).

Youth was served for the Red Devils as eighth-grader Arianna Corpuz won the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:03.47 and freshman Hannah Olson leaped to a win in the long jump (13-11.50).

Four Neah Bay individuals and one relay earned spot at Tri-Districts, which will be held this Thursday at Port Angeles High School.

Neah Bay boys win

Cameron Buzzell won two sprints and was part of two winning relay races to lead the Neah Bay boys (73 points) past Crescent (44) and Clallam Bay (34).

The Red Devils had nine individuals and two relays automatically qualify for Tri-Districts.

As with the girls, the top two boys at subdistricts advance. But they will be joined by the top four remaining times and distances from the three districts.

Buzzell raced to wins in the 100 and 200 sprints with times of 11.93 and 24.13 seconds, respectively.

He teamed with Anthony Bitegeko, Chris Tageant and Nathaniel Gamez-LaChester to win the 4×100 with a time of 48.03 seconds and the 4×400 relay in 3:49.06.

Bitegeko won the high jump by clearing 5-04.

Josey Tyree ran to a win in the 3,200 with a time of 5:39.46 for the Red Devils.

Phillip Greene was the surprise of the meet, winning the javelin (134-01) and improving his personal record by more than 40 feet.

Clallam Bay’s Clayton Willis dominated the day individually. The freshman took first in all three of his events, while also helping the Bruins qualify for Tri-Districts in the 4×400 relay.

Willis finished first in the 400 (55.58 seconds), the long jump (19-10.50) and the triple jump (39-08.50).

Jamari Signor also won an event for Clallam Bay, running the 800 in 2:13.78.

Alan Greene and Sam May were the Bruins’ other Tri-District automatic qualifiers.

Crescent had five winners Thursday and five automatic qualifiers.

Jordan Scott swept the 110 and 300 hurdles in 17.77 seconds and 46.27 seconds, respectively.

Kyle Buchanan ran the 1,600 in 5:38.78 to rack up a win for the Loggers, and Wyatt McNeese won the discus (115-04) and the shot put (41-01).
