TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP: Forks wins at six events; Sequim boys dominate league meet

HOQUIAM — Forks boys and girls track athletes combined to win six individual events at a four-team meet at Hoquiam’s Sea Breeze Oval on Thursday.

Luke Dahlgren and Wesley Camacho won two events apiece for the Spartans.

Dahlgren set a personal best mark of 42-feet, 1 inch in the shot put and claimed the discus with a distance of 135-7.

Camacho won the 1,600 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 7 seconds and the 800 in 2:18.

Hayden Queen cleared 5-6 to win the high jump for the Spartans.

Hoquiam won the meet with 114 points and Tenino edged out the Forks boys 40-37.

On the girls side, Candida-Rose Sandoval won the 300 hurdles (59.16) and Karen Ensastegui-Salazar (6:19) edged teammate Melisa Galindo (6:22.9) for first in the 1,600 meter run.

The Spartans were second with 44 points in the girls meet. Hoquiam won with 122 points, while Tenino was third with 28.

Olympic League meet at Sequim

SEQUIM — Freshman Riley Pyeatt was won of five multi-event winners for the Sequim boys and girls in a four-team Olympic League meet Thursday.

Pyeatt won all three sprints to lead the Wolves girls, racing to a time of 13.27 in the 100, 27.75 in the 200 and 1:01.32 in the 400.

Sophomore Abby Schroeder won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams for Sequim.

Schroeder set personal records in both the 300 hurdles (55.14) and the high jump (5-3).

She teamed with Shayli Schuman, Lesae Pfeffer and Mary McAleer to win the 4×100 relay (56.44) and with Daisy Ryan, Gabby Happe and Mia Underwood to take the 4×200 (2:01.93).

Schuman also claimed the 100 hurdles (16.78).

Junior Hope Glasser also did well for the Wolves, setting two personal records. She won the javelin with a mark of 90 feet, 3 inches and was second in the discus with a throw of 86-3.

Elizabeth Sweet won the pole vault with a mark of 7-6 for Sequim.

The Wolves finished second overall in the girls meet with 79 points. Klahowya won with 98.5 and Chimacum was fourth with 40.5 points, just behind Kingston (40).

Jada Trafton won the high jump for the Cowboys (14-6½) and Grace Crone-Wenzloff won the discus with a personal record of 94-2.

Sequim dominated the boys meet, winning 11 individual events and two team relays with 134 points, while Klahowya (86), Kingston (23) and Chimacum (20) also competed.

Riley Cowan, Fischer Jensen, Erik Christianson and Murray Bingham led the Wolves with two wins apiece.

Cowan threw the javelin 169-4 and had a mark of 39-8 in the shot put.

Jensen won both hurdles events, claiming the 110 in 16.52 seconds and the 300 in 43.0.

Bingham won the 800 (2:02.19) and the 1,600 (4:40.04).

Christianson was the Wolves’ other double winner, taking the discus with a distance of 91-4½ and the high jump with a mark of 5-6.

Sophomore Logan Laxson set a personal record to win the 100 (11.61) and was part of the Wolves’ winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Laxson teamed with Darren Salazar, Jarrett Allen and Keeshawn Whitney in the 4×100 (45.45) and with Bingham, Salazar and Henry Hughes in the 4×400 (3:41.16).

Salazar won the 200 sprint in 24 seconds.

Whitney won the triple jump with a person-record distance of 39-01.5.

Chimacum had runner-up finishes in the shot put by Anson Jones (35-10); the discus by Ryan MacGreggor (71-02); the javelin by Bjorn Danaan-Devas (140) and the long jump by Tanner Carstensen (16-04.5).

North Olympic League meet at Sequim

SEQUIM — Neah Bay’s boys and girls beat their North Olympic League counterparts in a Class 1B meet held simultaneously with Sequim’s Olympic League event Thursday.

The Neah Bay boys had 64 team points to 32 for Crescent and 26 for Clallam Bay. For the girls, Neah Bay led with 58 points to Clallam Bay’s 34. Crescent had 19 points.

Laila Greene won two events for the Red Devil girls, the 400 (1:13.543) and the 800 (2:55.01).

Neah Bay’s Sean Bitegeko not only won the long jump, he had the best overall long jump even including the 2A competitors, with a distance of 17 feet, 6½ inches. Bitegeko also won the 1B triple jump at 37-10. Clallam Bay’s Hannah Olson pulled off a similar feat, with the best shot put of the day of all competitors at 25-7. Olson also won the high jump at 4-2.

Clallam Bay’s Miriam Wonderly won two events, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.97 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 29.34. The Bruins’ Ryan Strid also won the boys’ sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.09.

3200-meter run — Draevun Buchanan, Crescent, 15:34.76.

110-meter hurdles — Malachi Tradway, Crescent, 18.95.

High jump — Mike Maines, Clallam Bay, 5-4.

Shot put — David Martinez, Neah Bay, 33-0.

Discus — Kalin Duncan, Clallam Bay, 86-3.

Javelin — Eric Emery, Crescent, 132-10.

Girls

4×100 relay — Clallam Bay (Venessa Jimmicum, Wonderly, Lexi Campbell, Syann Littleton), 59.32.

4×200 relay — Neah Bay (Grace Buzzell, Greene, Shilaily Woodruff, Grace Wilson), 2:04.80.

Long jump — Wilson, Neah Bay, 11-7.

Triple jump — Woodruff, Neah Bay, 28, 4 1/2.

Discus — Faye Martinez, Neah Bay, 57-6.

100-meter hurdles — Morgan Mattix, Crescent, 19.86.

Port Townsend at Bedlington

LYNDEN — Port Townsend’s Nathan Cantrell won the 3,200-meter run with a personal-record time of 9 minutes, 49.43 seconds at the Bedlington Twilight meet in Lynden.

Cantrell’s win was the lone first-place finish for the Redhawks. Friday’s meet featured eight 2A and 3A schools and 15 schools overall.

Aurin Asbell finished fifth in the girls’ high jump with a height of 4 feet, 6 inches. Port Townsend’s Dylan Tracer finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 119-2.
