PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls and Sequim boys dominated the host Roughriders annual Flying A Retro meet on Thursday at Port Angeles High School.
Led by sophomore Millie Long’s three individual event wins, the Port Angeles girls won nine individual events and and two relays while posting 172 points to take the seven-team meet by 78.5 points over runner-up Klahowya (93.5).
Sequim’s boys piled up even more points, 191, to best the second-place Eagles (120).
Teams from Port Townsend, Chimacum, Neah Bay and Clallam Bay also participated.
Long set a personal record in the 200 meters in 27.16 seconds, and also won the 100 hurdles (16.32) and the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 10½ inches.
Freshman Eve Burke also shined for the Rider girls — setting a PR while winning the 100 in 13.42 and clearing 4-10 to tie for the top spot in the high jump (4-10).
Sophomore Lauren Larson notched her best-ever time to win the 1,600 (5:24.86).
Junior Kynzie DeLeon claimed the 800 for Port Angeles in 2:32.74, Myra Walker posted a distance of 30-06 to finish first in the shot put and junior Mckenzie Musalek cleared 9 feet in the pole vault for another Rider win.
Port Angeles’ 4×100 relay team featuring Burke, Camille Stensgard, Catie Brown and Lynsey Light won in 54.36.
DeLeon, Larson, Long and Musalek teamed to win the 4×400 in 4:25.87 by nearly 13 seconds over their Klahowya counterparts.
Port Townsend’s girls finished third as a team with 67 points. The Redhawks had two event winners as senior Jaz Apker-Montoya set a personal record of 90-07 in the javelin and senior Brenna Franklin threw the discus 91-08.
Sequim edged Chimacum for fourth place 63-62.
Sophomore Abby Schroeder (52.48) and junior Lesae Pfeffer (57.5) set PRs with a one-two finish in the 300 hurdles for the Wolves.
Chimacum junior Elizabeth Shifflett set two PRs in her two second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (17.19) and the long jump (14-10.25).
Neah Bay sophomore Shilaily Woodruff had the best individual result for the Red Devils, runner-up in the triple jump (28-01.50).
Hannah Olson had Clallam Bay’s best individual finish, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 85-04.
Sequim controls boys meet
Sequim won 10 individual events and two relays to dominate the boys meet.
Riley Cowan and Fischer Jensen each won two events for the Wolves. Cowan threw the javelin 154-05 and had a distance of 39-08.5 in the shot put.
Jensen won both hurdles events, the 110 in 16.96 and the 300 in 42.12.
Senior Jarrett Allen set a PR in the triple jump with a distance of 39-03.
Connor Forderer won the pole vault in 10-06.
The Wolves won the sprints as Logan Laxson claimed the 100 (11.7); Darren Salazar the 200 (23.19) and Alec Shingleton the 400 (51.35).
Murray Bingham also claimed the 800 (1:57.69) for Sequim.
Laxson, Salazar, Allen and Keeshawn Whitney teamed for a 4×100 relay win (44.65) and Bingham joined Laxson, Salazar and Henry Hughes to win the 4×400 (3:34.86).
Liam Clark won two events for the Port Angeles boys, the long jump with a distance of 19-06 and the high jump (5-10).
Port Townsend won two boys events. Dylan Tracer threw the discus 114-02 and Nathan Cantrell ran down a victory in the 1,600 in 4:39.82.
Chimacum’s Bjorn Danaan-Devas had the Cowboys’ best finish, second in the javelin (131-11). Anson Jones was third for Chimacum in the shot put (34-04).
Sean Bitegeko and Keith Johnson Jr. each posted second-place finishes to lead the Neah Bay boys.
A senior, Bitegeko set a PR in the triple jump (37-11.75). Johnson was second in the 400 in 56.12.
Clallam Bay junior Ryan Strid had the Bruins best place — third in the 100 in 12.05.
Forks at Monte meet
MONTESANO — Candida-Rose Sandoval and Melisa Galindo won individual events for the Spartans at a four-team Evergreen/Pacific 1A/2B meet at Montesano on Thursday.
Sandoval, a freshman, claimed the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 56.79.
Galindo won the 1,600 in 6:24.84. A senior, Galindo also set a personal record in the 800 meters (2:49.25) to finish third.
Hoquiam won the girls meet with 91 points. The Spartans were fourth with 30 points.
Wesley Camacho had the best finishes for the Forks boys, placing second in both the 800 (2:23.33) and 1,600 (5:09.23).
Montesano won the boys meet with 101 points. Forks finished fourth with 25.
