WILDER JUNIOR: Juniors snap losing streak with a pair of victories

PORT ANGELES — After a rough start to the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker, Wilder Junior finally got its first victory of the tourney, pounding out 11 hits and four doubles in a 9-3 win Sunday over the WBS Colts White team.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Wilder Junior (15-11). The juniors then won their afternoon game 5-2 over the WBS Colts Red team in their final Dick Brown Memorial game.

Ian Smithson went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI. Carston Seibel hit a double and drove in two runs, Bryce Deleon went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Clay Abrams hit a double and drove in two runs. Brandt Petty and Lincoln Bear each hit doubles.

Perry went five innings on the mound, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Rylan Dunn pitched 1⅔ innings and struck out three.

The juniors beat the WBS Colts Red team behind pitcher Braedyn Coulden, who went the distance on the mound, giving up six hits and striking out two.

Wilder Junior got a fantastic pitching performance from Deleon on Saturday at the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker, but ended up on the short end of a 1-0 pitchers’ duel against the WBS Colts Red team.

Wilder Junior managed just three hits and Deleon allowed just four hits and three walks. The Colts Red lone run in the fourth inning came on a walk and an error.

Deleon went the full seven innings, striking out three.

At the plate, Perry was 2-for-3 while Ryland Proiette was 1-for-1 with a stolen base.

On Friday, the juniors lost to CBC Green 9-5. Trae Hanan was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBIs. Easton Fisher was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, Bear was 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI and Smithson was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.

On the mound, Bear went three innings and allowed two hits and two earned runs. Owen Leitz also went three innings, allowing a hit and two earned runs. He struck out one.

Wilder A

WALLA WALLA — Wilder A got outstanding pitching from a trio of hurlers, but was no-hit in an eight-inning 2-1 pitchers’ duel loss Sunday morning to the Washington Rush Blue team at a tournament in Walla Walla.

Zach Debray, Duran Ward and Parker Pavlak combined to allow just five hits in eight innings.

Wilder A managed to take it to extra innings despite being no-hit. Wilder scored a run in the sixth inning when Khyler Thompson-Fowler got on base with a fielder’s choice. Debray got on after an error, Aidric McBride was hit by a pitch and then Ethan Swenson picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.

On Saturday, Wilder A (2-8) had another close loss, 6-5 to Legacy Legends. Wilder A rallied with three runs in the sixth inning and had the tying and winning runs on base in the seventh but couldn’t get them home.

Kade Acker pitched 2⅓ innings, giving up five hits and an earned run. Ben Clemens 3⅔ innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs. He struck out two.

Pavlak had a crucial base hit in the sixth inning to drive in two runs, bringing Wilder A to within one run of Legacy.

McBride was also 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk, while Eden Peterson 1-for-2, scored a run and walked.

In the seventh, Thompson-Fowler was hit by a pitch and McBride walked, but Legacy was able to get a ground ball double play to end the game.

In a late Friday game, Wilder A lost to Pendleton (Oregon) Hodgen 12-8 as a late Wilder rally came up short.

Pendleton got up 12-4 but Wilder A scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Eden Peterson was 3-for-4 a run scored and a stolen base. Kade Acker was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Duran Ward was 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Ethan Swenson hit a double, scored a run and drove one in.

Wilder A also lost early Friday 18-0 to the Kennewick Phantoms.

Wilder A next plays a doubleheader at the Stanwood Cannons A team at noon and 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stanwood High Wood.
