BREMERTON — A pair of Olympic Peninsula girls had a fantastic weekend at the prestigious Hammerhead Invitational held over two days at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion.
Taking first place in her weight class was Mi Amada Lanphear-Ramirez of East Jefferson. Taking second was Miley Blanton of Forks.
More than 60 boys and girls teams from all classifications competed at the Hammerhead.
Lanphear-Ramirez, wrestling at 115 pounds, made it to the championship match with three straight pins. In the championship match, she beat Ramona Reinitz of Centralia with a 14-7 decision.
Blanton, wrestling at 125 pounds, won her first two matches by pin. Then she beat Shelby Hazlett of W.F. West in a 12-3 major decision to qualify for the championship match. In the championship, she lost 6-0 to Rosemary Brooks from South Kitsap, a 3A school.
Also for East Jefferson, Ursula Schmidt won a pair of matches in the 140B weight class, both by pin, while Gracee Liske also won a pair of matches by pin in the 120C class.
For the Forks girls, Allie Coon finished fourth at the 105B class, winning two matches by pin and a third match in an injury default. Riley Tjepkema, in the 140B class, won a pair of matches with pins and a third with a major decision.
Boys results
The best showing among the boys was by Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez of East Jefferson, who came in sixth at 160 pounds. He started off with four straight pins to make it to the semifinals of his class.
Grady White won three matches by pins and a fourth match by a medical forfeit. Levi Donahue at 157 pounds won a pair of matches by pin.
For Forks, Aiden Ivey had the best showing, coming in fifth at 157 pounds. He won his first four matches by major decision, pin, medical forfeit and decision to make it to the semifinals. After losing in the semis, he won his fifth-place match with a pin over Raul Morales of Kent.
Walker Rondeau at 132 pounds won three matches by pin. Walker Wheeler at 150 pounds won two matches by pin and two by decisions. Mason Leinan won three matches by pin at 175 and Sloan Tumaua won three matches at 285, two by pin and the third in a decision. Adrian Sanchez at 165 pounds won a pair of matches by pin.
The Forks girls are scheduled to next wrestle at the Grizzly Stocking Stuffer in Hoquiam on Wednesday, while the boys are scheduled to wrestle at the King & the Queen of the Castle at Stadium High School in Tacoma.
The East Jefferson boys and girls are off until after Christmas. The girls are scheduled to wrestle at the North Mason Girls Invitational on Dec. 27 and The Rock Invite at Vashon Island on Dec. 28. The boys are scheduled to wrestle at The Rock Invite on Dec. 29.
