BREMERTON — Three Port Angeles grapplers claimed Olympic League Subregional wrestling championships and a total of ten Sequim and Port Angeles boys wrestlers advanced to regionals after placing in the top four at the Olympic League Sub-regional held Friday at the Kitsap Fairgrounds’ President’s Hall.

Port Angeles finished fourth overall with 168.5 points and Sequim was sixth with 94 points.

Bremerton, ranked No. 3 by Washington Wrestling Report, won the event with five champions and 300.5 total team points. No. 10 North Kitsap (293) was runner-up.

The Roughriders’ lower weight classes are the team’s strength and that strength was on display as Raymond Rodriguez went 3-0 on the day and won the 120-pound championship for Port Angeles with a pin at 2:47 of his final against Olympic’s Mason Manglona.

Phoenix Flores was victorious for the Riders in the 126-pound division, going 2-0, including a 9-4 decision in his final over Bremerton’s Logan Nickles.

Lance Menes earned Port Angeles’ third sub-regional crown with a pin late in the first round of his 195-pound championship match with Bremerton’s Colby Furniss.

Cash Coleman advanced to the 113-pound final for Port Angeles, bowing out 2-0 to North Kitsap’s Wyatt Trogeden.

Ethan Abrams at 138 and Zach Gavin at 152 had to fight back after falling in their opening round matches.

The pair bounced back to earn third-place finishes. Abrams picked up a 15-0 technical fall victory over North Kitsap’s Mason Holmes for third, while Gavin came out on top of a 6-0 decision against North Kitsap’s Jake Poggi.

Thomas Arand also was fourth at 170 and Jack Harrelson was fifth at 145 (alternate).

Sequim advanced three wrestlers to the regional tournament with two making it to subregional championships.

Cayden Beauregard lost in championship of 106-pound class in a 12-4 major decision to Bremerton’s Tanner Urrutia.

Sam Fitzgerald went 2-1 at 132 to finish second. He earned a 15-4 win in the semis but was pinned late at 5:31 while trailing 2-1.

Aaron Tolberd went 2-2 to finish fourth.

Tolberd knocked out two Port Angeles wrestlers in the consolation bracket, Anthony McMahan and Jack Harrelson before falling 6-3 in the third-place match.

The Class 2A Region 2 Tournament will be held at Orting High School next Saturday.
