YOUTH SPORTS BRIEFS: Eagles beat Hi Tech in Cal Ripken

PORT ANGELES — The Eagles beat Hi Tech 8-1 in Cal Ripken play this weekend.

The Eagles were led offensively by Easton Merritt with a home run in the third inning and a two-run triple by Jordan Shumway in the fourth inning.

Kellen Garcelon and Tyler Hunter both scored twice in the game. Tritten Gahimer played well defensively at third base.

Merritt had a stellar performance on the mound, going four scoreless innings while striking out six. Tyler Hunter finished the game, striking out four in two innings. Hi Tech struggled at the plate with its only a home run by John Vaara in the sixth inning.

Earlier last week, the Eagles topped the Elks 8-2. Elks was able to contain the Eagles offense for the first four innings with strong pitching from Kolten Corey and Reid Schmidt. In the fifth inning, the Eagles were able to load the bases with the help of a couple walks, then Tritten Gahimer hit a bases-clearing double. He finished the night with four RBIs and two doubles.

Athletes Choice wins 2

PORT ANGELES — Athletes Choice pitcher Kamron Meadows pitched all five innings to get an 11-1 win over Sequim Co-op Friday night in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action, striking out eight and giving up only one walk. Hunter Robinson, Kamron Meadows, Sean Hanrahan, Harley Dachs, and Aaron Edmiston all had hits for Athletes Choice. Robinson, Hunter Witt, Gunnar Volkmann, Hanrahan, Trenton Indelicato and Tanner Walker all recorded RBIs in the win.

Saturday afternoon’s game between Athletes Choice and Westport was a slugfest with both teams getting lots of offensive support in a 17-7 win for Athletes Choice. Westport scored two runs in the first inning on four hits, but Athletes Choice answered by scoring its first six batters that came to the plate. Athletes Choice got four runs in the third. Westport rallied with three runs in the fifth.

Finally, Athletes Choice responded with six more runs in the fifth to pull away. Robinson, Walker, Hanrahan, Brayden Emery, Harley Dachs, Edmiston and Indelicato all had singles for Athletes Choice.

Wyatt Hall, Brayden Emery had doubles and Gunnar Volkmann had two doubles, while Wyatt Hall and Emery each had doubles for Athletes Choice.

For Westport, Michael Soule, Isaiah Getchell, Beckett Jarnagin, Landon Siebel, Conner Bear, Ty Bradow and Robbie Fors had hits.

Tranco beats OLC

PORT ANGELES — Tranco’s Grace Roening and Teagan Clark split pitching duties, allowing just three hits and striking out 11 in a 12-4 win last week over OLC in 12U softball action.

Lily Halberg went 3 for 3 and scored three runs. Roening hit a triple to center field, while Zoe Smithson and Teanna Clark each had hits and scored a run. Hollie Tietjen walked twice and scored both times.

For OLC, Peyton Rudd pitched three innings with eight strikeouts, while Maliah Wilson struck out two in two innings. Alyssa McCallister, Peyton Rudd, Lily Thomas and Cydne Moore all scored runs for OLC, while Moore McCallister and Naomi Sprague all had hits.

Rudd hit a hard hit fly ball to left center that could have scored runs in the third inning but Tranco’s Lillie Commerree made a great catch that ended the inning.
